Registering for the GMAT

The GMAT is a common standardized test, and those living in most areas of the United States should be able to register for a test date and write the test in a nearby area quite easily. In order to register for the GMAT, the following factors should be considered.

Location

Since the GMAT is offered in many locations throughout the United States, Americans should not find it too difficult to find a test center that is nearby. Those living in Canada or overseas may find that the test is only offered at a few specific locations, so it is important to ensure that you will be able to travel if necessary to write the test.

Dates

Again, in the United States, tests are offered at a variety of times throughout the year. In other locations, individuals may only be permitted to write the test on a few dates in any given year. Choosing the date on which the test will be written is important. Individuals planning to apply to graduate school should inquire about application deadlines before registering for the test. The test should be written at a relatively early date, and the individual should ensure that the test results will be received by their chosen schools well in advance of the deadline. In addition, individuals should consider that they may wish to rewrite the test to obtain a better score. At least 31 days must pass before the test can be rewritten, so scheduling a test date that will allow for this possible scenario is highly desirable. Available dates and locations for tests can be accessed online at www.mba.com.

Scheduling a Test Date

After the individual has found a suitable location and date for the test, they may register to take the test. There are various registration options, and appointments can be made online, through mail, over the phone, or by fax. Various forms and other types of information must be submitted, depending on the method used, and it is important to ensure that all required information is submitted at the time of registration.

Payment of Fees

At the time that the test date is scheduled, all applicable fees must be remitted. Currently, the cost to take the GMAT is $250 US. The price is the same, regardless of the location where the test will be written. However, those residing in certain countries may be required to pay tax on the registration fee, and any taxes must also be paid at this time.
